Botanical Name: Chamaedora Elegans; Neanthe Bella
Common Name: Parlour Palm
Don’t put it in the sun (and give it some occasional moisture), and this wee palm will thrive. (Novice)
Ideal for the fancypants home or office. The Parlour Palm is a popular houseplant with groups of thin trunks topped by fronds of dagger-shaped leaves. They satisfy a deep-seated urge for the exotic without the need for travel or large amounts of cash, and the bright green colouring of the foliage lends itself well to any room, unless you live in a cave. If you live in a cave, get help.
Mostly small, but can be big & tall. The Parlour Palm grows slowly and may take decades to reach its full height. A mature houseplant may grow to be anywhere from 0.5m to 1.8m tall (4-10 feet), but typical houseplants are often sold between 9 to 20cm (3.5 to 8 inches).
Moderate to bright indirect light. In a room with lots of light and sun, place away from windows. This palm also does well in dim light and shady areas. Fronds will lighten to white and/or brown if placed in an area with too much light.
Sensitive to overwatering. Water more frequently in summer but if in doubt, drier is better.
High-quality potting mix. Any good potting soil will work for this plant indoors. If outside, the Parlour Palm grows well in clay, loam, or sandy soil, but struggles in areas with high salt content.
